Scotland boss Alex McLeish has named seven uncapped players in his squad to face Mexico and Peru later this month. Only four of his 24-man team have more than 10 caps.
The seven uncapped members are John Souttar (Hearts), Jon McLaughlin (Hearts), Lewis Stevenson (Hibs), Dylan McGeouch (Hibs), Graham Shinnie (Aberdeen), Lewis Morgan (Celtic), and goalkeeper Jordan Archer (Millwall).
Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson—who will play in the Champions League final later this month—is not involved.
The news will be a blow to El Tri. Osorio’s team was hoping to face tough European opposition in a bid to prepare themselves for a World Cup group that includes both Germany and Sweden.
Scotland was deemed to be the ideal test. The country is enjoying a resurgent period and narrowly missed out on World Cup qualification.
However, with no tournament to prepare for this summer, McLeish has opted to rest all his seniors and take a look at some other options.
“We have been lamenting the fact over the last few years that we don’t have enough talent coming out of the country, so this is when we have to start getting on to the encouragement side of things,” said the manager.
“We took every individual on their own merits,” he added. “It wasn’t a case of doing anybody any favors, it was more about what we felt about the future as well.” (Daily Mail)
