No Chivas players in Mexico World Cup squad for second consecutive tournament

Chivas will not be represented in Mexico’s World Cup squad for the second consecutive time.

Juan Carlos Osorio named his provisional 28-man team earlier today, but there were no Chivas players on the roster.

It’s a disappointing outcome for a team which only hires Mexican players, especially considering Miguel Herrera did not call up any of Guadalajara’s squad for the competition in Brazil four years ago either.

Prior to 2014, Chivas had enjoyed continuous representation in Mexico’s World Cup side for 84 years.

Some onlookers thought keeper Rodolfo Cota and midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro might both make the final cut, but neither did.

The last time Chivas players were with El Tri at a World Cup was in 2010. On that occasion, Javier Aguirre called up Jonny Magallón, Adolfo Bautista, Alberto Medina, and Luis Ernesto Michel.
