The Mexican national team will travel to Denmark on Sunday with 24 players after cutting Jürgen Damm, Jesus Molina, and Oswaldo Alanís from their World Cup final roster.
Jesus Molina’s omission has been the most staggering of the three. As the only natural holding midfielder left in the squad many fans expected him to travel to Russia and possibly even start their opening game against reigning champions Germany.
Juan Carlos Osorio has previously justified leaving out players such as Gallito Vasquez in favor of taller midfielders with a superior aerial game, a criterion in which Molina has others beat.
Fans were already confused about Gallito’s absence from the list, but are now even more furious with Molina missing out as well.
Here’s what people have been saying:
Mexico with out a #5 is suicidal expect a goleada and a fast return from Rusia, no team in the world plays with out a #5

It's funny seeing all the justifications for his call-up over Gallito: his height, aerial challenges won, etc. Now? Cut from the WC squad. https://t.co/eRsLA1xk5j

Understand all cuts but Molina. Don’t think Mexico has a CDM as physical as him, real shame. Snubbed again for another WC. https://t.co/pWgm0g0w8k

Mexico doesn't have a CDM.
Edson may do the job, but he hasn't played there for over a year.
Márquez can play there too, if he is fit to play and if his legs can resist.
Bad decision to discard Molina, Giovani should be the one discarded.

JCO once again not understanding the skill set of the Mexican players/team…. Why would he drop his only real option for defensive mid 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ https://t.co/7KSjbKI3h1

Tom, this makes me very worried because it looks like we have another unbalanced roster. We don’t have a single natural #6 on the roster now. Does this mean we’ll be playing a 4-2-3-1? We also have not a single natural RB & just 1 LB. I really hope Osorio isn’t planning on 4-3-3.
