Omar Govea was left out of Royal Excel Mouscron’s matchday squad for the second consecutive game at the weekend.
Manager Frank Defays said Govea’s poor attitude was the reason for his absence.
Defays has chosen to dump Govea at a crucial time of the campaign. A Europa League place is still within reach for the Jupiler Pro League side, but—despite starting 28 of his side’s 30 games this season—the Mexican’s poor mentality has been deemed to be too detrimental on the squad’s mentality.
“I have not seen a change of attitude in him”, said the manager. “It should be between the two of us, but I cannot understand it”
“I have done what I think is best for the group, and also for the club and the player.” (ESPN)
On 13 November 2017, Govea made his debut with the Mexico national team in a friendly match against Poland. He was called up again in mid-March for the matches against Iceland and Croatia.
