Transfer deal for Tigres star collapses, player will stay in Mexico

Rafael Carioca will stay at Tigres next season after the midfielder’s move to Saudi Arabian side, Al-Nassr, collapsed.

Carioca’s place at the Nuevo Leon club has been under scrutiny since the return of Guido Pizarro from Sevilla.

Tigres president Miguel Garza told reporters that the 29-year-old would start his pre-season training program as normal.

“There was an agreement with the Arabians but, unfortunately, they did not reach an agreement with the player,” he explained. “He is still at Tigres to train and do all the other things.” (Multimedios)

The president did not share the fee that the two clubs had agreed upon.

Carioca has only been at Tigres for 12 months after joining from Atlético Mineiro last summer.

It is now unlikely that last season’s Apertura champions will make any further changes to the side. No incomings or outgoings are expected before the season kicks off in mid-July.
