Pumas UNAM striker Nico Castillo could replace Raul Jimenez at Benfica next season.
The interest has been driven by doubts over the future of El Tri star, Raul Jimenez. The former Club America player scored six goals last season, but was primarily used as a substitute by manager Rui Vitória. Just six of his 32 league appearances were as a starter.
It’s thought the 27-year-old will leave the club in the summer, with rumors suggesting Benfica will be happy to sell for around $50 million USD.
Castillo enjoyed a productive 2017/18 campaign in Mexico, despite Pumas’ largely disappointing form. In his 27 league starts he found the net 17 times, helping to fire his club to an unlikely Liguilla berth in the Clausura.
