Luuk de Jong deal collapses: Striker rejects big-money move to Club America

Luuk de Jong will not sign for Club America this summer after choosing to remain at PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutch striker’s agents traveled to Mexico City last month to meet America’s directors. They discussed Las Aguilas’ proposal and received a tour around Coapa and the club’s High-Performance Center.

However, Univision says the package was not enough to persuade the 27-year-old to make the move to Mexico. He is most likely to remain in the Netherlands, but it’s thought he also has offers on the table from other European sides.

The news will be a blow to Tigres. At one stage, it looked like Tuca’s team might try and hijack America’s deal.

Piojo will now switch his attention to other targets. He had hoped to conclude a deal for a new forward before the World Cup, but that now looks impossible.

According to Esto, Sporting Lisbon’s Dutch forward Bas Dost is an option. Raúl Ruidíaz was being considered, but he now looks close to agreeing a move to MLS side Seattle Sounders (ESPN).
