Chivas wants to bring Carlos Vela back to Mexico on a loan deal.
Vela currently plays in MLS after joining LAFC from Real Sociedad in January.
The 2018 Clausura was one of Chivas’ worst campaigns in recent memory. Almeyda’s side limped into 17th place with just three wins and 14 goals scored all season.
As a result of the under-performance, El Universal says Vergara wants to reinforce his squad ahead of the Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The report claims a loan deal allows the Chivas owner to strengthen the side without a significant capital outlay.
It is unclear how long the loan agreement would last.
The UAE’s Al-Ain is currently the only other confirmed team for the December event; it qualified automatically as host.
