Jorge Vergara has said he will not sell Chivas this summer.
Vergara has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks after a nightmare off-season. Fans are unhappy that the club sold Rodolfo Pizarro to Liga MX rivals Monterrey, while Matias Almeyda became so disillusioned with off-the-field events that he walked away from his job as manager.
Rumors about a sale had started to swirl after Chivas’ precarious financial situation came under increasing scrutiny. It was recently revealed that Vergara himself owed several million dollars to the Mexican tax authorities.
However, Vergara put an end to the speculation with an emphatic image on social media. “The team is not for sale”, it reads. “Do not be fooled.”
