Atlas wants to sign out-of-favor MLS striker, Diego Rubio.
Rubio currently plays for MLS side Sporting Kansas City but has struggled for minutes since arriving in 2016.
He has only started one league match all season and has been forced to turn to Kansas City’s USL affiliate, Swope Park Rangers, in a bid to find some playing time.
Atlas recently sold star striker Milton Caraglio to Liga MX rivals Cruz Azul and is currently in the process of trying to find a replacement.
Despite his lack of minutes in the United States, Rubio enjoys a burgeoning international reputation. There is a sense he has been treated unfairly during his time north of the border.
The 25-year-old Chilean is the godson of Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Club America legend Ivan Zamorano. According to AS, he is keen to follow in his mentor’s footsteps and play in Mexico.
A fee has not yet been discussed, but the report claims the Atlas scouting team has been watching the player closely and has recently made initial contact with Kansas.
Rumors suggest Atlas also wants to spend some of the Caraglio cash on MLS defender, Roman Torres.
