Assistant ref in “attack” controversy banned for five games

Assitant referee Marcos Quintero Huitrón has been banned for five games following his altercation with Miller Bolaños.

He grabbed the Xolos player by the shirt during the Apertura quarter-final clash against Monterrey.

The ban only applies to the Liga MX, meaning he will be free to continue officiating in the Copa MX and any international competitions.

The Disciplinary Committee said Quintero had not operated within “established guidelines” and sanctioned him under Article 48 of the regulations.

Quintero was also threatened with a lengthier ban should he repeat the indiscretion.

“We would like to warn Marcos Quintero Huitrón about his future conduct”, said the committee in a statement. “If this type of incident is repeated in the future, the body may impose more severe sanctions against him”

It is the first time in Mexico that an official has been banned for assaulting a player.
